Um, the Manaphy event did not require National Dex (I was only at Canalave [5 or 6 badges] when I got it), so I'm pretty sure you don't need the Nat-Dex for Shaymin, either....

Because Manaphy was in the Regional Dex. Shaymin isn't, not even after its Platinum expansion.

Well, my brother was able to download Tyranitar onto his FireRed at JAA before he got the National Dex.

Wait, according to this poster, it only says Pokedex, not National. If it is true, it would be like Ruby/Sapphire: You can get Colosseum or XD Pokemon without getting the National Dex

I'm aware the poster said that, but I'd like to explain why you will never need the National Dex in D/P/Pt. The above quote is completely and utterly irrelevant. National Dex Pokemon traded or downloaded to games with no National Dex just won't display a Pokedex number. Worked that way for Darkrai and Deoxys, and works that way for the Magnezone I'm using ingame in Pearl.
As long as you have the Pokedex, Shaymin will be attainable.
