This is a fanfic I wrote using OpenOffice.org Writer, Pokémon Protectors: Key to Paradise, part one of the Pokémon Protectors series. There's already an idea for part two, but before I get ahead of myself, I would like to share part one with all of you. This is the first time I've wrote a fanfic and hopefully it won't be the last. Now without further ado, here is Key to Paradise.

Prologue
Preparing for the Battle Ahead

“Arcanine, finish Nintales off with your Extreme Speed attack!” the ecstatic, young male told his loyal Pokémon. The large, red beast vanished for a split second before the swift, white fox and her trainer. A second later, Arcanine appeared again, lunging toward Ninetales at great speed. The force from the blow sent Ninetales flying in the air for a short time before landing hard on the ground. With Ninetales unable to get back up, Arcanine was declared the victor.

“Ninetales, you did well,” the vibrant lass told to her brave Pokémon, “Return now.” The young woman then took out a Poké Ball and shot a red beam of light at her Ninetales. The red light soon disappeared along with her Pokémon. She then approached the young man who defeated her, “Well, you didn't hold anything back that time.”

“Why would I?” he asked rhetorically, “The finals for the Pokémon League Championship are tomorrow. I really can't hold anything back then.”

“Alright, Chris. I hoped this practice battle helped you out a little.”

“It sure did. Thank you, Ashley.”

“Do your best to win tomorrow.” Ashley's cheeks begin to puff up with anger, “I shouldn't have lost to that pompous jerk, Damien. Make sure he pays for that.”

“It was enough he made a pass at you, but creaming you in front of everyone definitely took the cake.” Chris could feel Ashley's eyes burning a hole in his brain, “Don't worry, I'll do my best tomorrow. I have to.”

“That's good.” Ashley faces the pathway back to town, “We should go back to the Pokémon Center. Some warm beds are waiting for us there.”

“That's what she said,” Chris chuckled.

Ashley turns back toward Chris and gives him a peculiar look, “I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that. Come on, let's go.”

“Right behind you.” The two trainers left the green meadows they used for training grounds and head toward the dim lights of the city. The light of the moon shined brightly, guiding the youths back to civilization.

I hope to have Chapter 1 done later today after I revise it. Don't worry, it will definitely be longer than the prologue. This was just a tidbit of the world of Pokémon Protectors. I hoped you've enjoyed it.
I think this is good so far. I like it, and the "That's what she said", was pretty funny:D I'm looking forward to the first chapter!
This looks promising :) Be sure to update this, so I can read more stuff other than ToJ :P
Thanks, guys. Here's the first chapter.

Chapter 1
Fight for the Championship

The sun was shining brightly above the arena, providing warmth to spectators, while the occasional breeze blew by, giving sweet relief. The stadium was packed with people awaiting the final battle of the 21st annual Ovato Pokémon League Championship. The roar of the crowd could be heard from the waiting room, where Chris resided. All of his Pokémon were before him as he gave them one last speech before heading to the battlefield.

“Some of you have been with me since the beginning of my journey,” Chris began, “and some of you are new companions I'm glad to have. I want you all to know that win or lose, my travels with you have been the most fun I've ever had and I hope you all feel the same way. I've trained some of you since you were real small and, in some ways, you all have trained me, too.” The young trainer pauses, “Let's show everyone what we can do!”

It was then that all of Chris' Pokémon gave a big battle cry, ready to fight. The valet entered the room, surprised about all the commotion, “Mr. Collins, we are finished with the ceremonies. It's time for the final round of the tournament. Would you please come with me?”

“Of course,” Chris answered. He then turned toward his team, “Ready, guys? Then let's go.” Chris returned his Pokémon back to their Poké Balls and followed the valet.

The walk to the arena seemed like the longest walk in the world for Chris. Brightly painted portraits, robust statues and the occasional vendor captured his eye, but thoughts of the upcoming match were the most pressing thing on his mind. He couldn't help it though, this was going to be the biggest battle of his life, or so he thought. None the less, it was the opportunity he and his Pokémon worked so hard for and he wasn't going to let it pass by.

“And in this corner, another newcomer that has made his way to the finals. From New Light Town, Ovato, would you please welcome Christopher Collins!” Chris had finally made it to the arena. He received cheers from the masses, cheers that he'd earned from his previous matches. The valet wished Chris luck before he left. It was then that he saw his opponent, dressed in dark clothing with spiky black hair, Damien Thompson, one of the most ruthless Pokémon trainers in Ovato.

“Don't choke, Collins,” Damien sneered, hoping to get Chris riled up.

“Don't worry. I won't,” Chris responded confidently. The announcer then began to explain the rules of the contest.

“Both trainers are only allowed to select three Pokémon from their team to battle and only one Pokémon can be sent out at a time. A winner is decided only when a trainer's last selected Pokémon cannot continue the match. Now, trainers! Are you ready?”

“I sure am,” Chris answered.

“As ready as I'm going to be,” Damien boldly replied.

“Ladies and gentlemen! Are you ready?” The crowd roared in response, “Then let's get this match started! Let the final battle of the Pokémon League Championship begin! Trainers, choose your Pokémon!” Chris and Damien's choices were made long before this moment.

Damien took a Poké Ball out of his pocket. “I'll have the honor of going first,” Damien declared. He drew his arm back and pitched the red and white ball at the ground. “Go, my mighty Gyarados!” There was a blinding light in the middle of the stage, and when it faded, the intimidating, blue dragon appeared, hovering above the arena. Chris knew exactly how to counter it.

“You've already made your first mistake, Damien, and I'll show you why.” Chris took a Poké Ball from his belt and threw it in the middle of ring. “Show them what you got, Jolteon!” From the light, came the yellow hound with jagged fur. He looked up at Gyarados in awe, but Jolteon knew he had the power to ground the giant. Electricity was already flying.

Before Damien could respond, Chris issued his first attack, “Jolteon, use your Thunderbolt!” Jolteon charged up some electricity for a short time before shooting it at his fierce looking opponent. Gyarados was throbbing with pain, but to everyone's surprise, he stayed afloat. Chris, Jolteon and the entire audience couldn't believe it. “What happened? An attack like that would surely take down a Pokémon who is doubly weak to it.”

“Normally, that would be the case,” Damien explained, “but if you'd notice anything, you would have seen that my Gyarados was equipped with a Focus Sash. With it on, Gyarados would be able to withstand any attack that would take him out in one blow. That will cost you, Collins, since your Jolteon is now open for an attack.”

He then turned to his Gyarados, “Take out Jolteon with your Earthquake attack, Gyarados!” Gyarados slammed himself on the ground violently. The force cracked the floor and sent shock waves throughout the arena. Chris and Damien were knocked off their feet from the blast, but the one who suffered the most was Jolteon. He was sent flying and landed on the floor with incredible force, not being able to get back up.

“Jolteon has fallen! The round goes to Gyarados!” the announcer exclaimed. Spectators were stunned for a second, but then they hollered with excitement. Chris was infuriated by Gyarados' show of power and Damien's slight of hand, but one thing was sure. This battle was far from over.
I didn't see the Focus Sash coming :P
Anyways, good job on the fanfic so far ^_^
That Focus Sash was a surprise. You've only just started and have already managed to make Damien get on my nerves. Good Job!:)
Chapter 2
The Battle Continues

“Jolteon!” Chris cried in dismay. “You will be avenged, my friend.” He then returned Jolteon to his Poké Ball. The crowd was still in amazement over what just happened, Gyarados, part-Water, part-Flying, took out an Electric Pokémon.

“I believe this crowd really likes what I've got to show them. What do you think?” Damien asked.

“I think you're going to pay for that!” he answered with anger in his eyes. Chris took out another Poké Ball and tossed it into the ring, “Go, Floatzel!” Out of the capsule came the cunning, orange weasel with the yellow flotation device, “Teach Gyarados a lesson about what being a Water Pokémon is all about!”

It was then Chris issued his command, “Floatzel, use your Aqua Jet attack!” Floatzel sprayed a burst of water in the air before launching himself upward with his tail. As he passed through the liquid with tremendous speed, it formed around him like a coat. The swift weasel aimed right at the dragon's head and landed a harsh blow using all of his body weight and the fluid around him. Normally, it wouldn't be effective, since they were both the same type, but with Gyarados only hanging on by a thread from Jolteon's attack, it didn't really matter. The gargantuan finally crashed to the ground with the awe of the masses.

“Gyarados is down!” the announcer declared. “The round goes to Floatzel!” Damien retrieved Gyarados' Poké Ball.

“Return, Gyarados!” Damien demanded. Then Chris witnessed something surprising to him, “You did well.” Damien took out his next Poké Ball and threw it into the arena, “Go, Shiftry!” The Pokémon with white hair and yellow eyes emerged from the capsule, “Show Floatzel what pain really is!”

Floatzel was in trouble. Shiftry had a type advantage over him, but that didn't mean he was going down without a fight. Chris hoped that Floatzel would endure the oncoming attack, so that he could deal back a damaging maneuver of his own. Damien gave out his next command, “Shiftry, use Nasty Plot!” Shiftry waved his arms and legs as his eyes began the glow purple. An aura with the same color as his eyes started to envelop him. After the short dance, the creature looked meaner and more focused then he was before.

It was now Floatzel's time to act, “Floatzel, attack with Ice Fang!” Floatzel began to expel cold air from his mouth. In a short time, he was breathing ice. Ready to attack, he lunged at Shiftry with his super cold teeth. The Grass Pokémon wasn't able to dodge the attack and succumbed to the arctic bite. Even though the attack was super-effective, Shiftry was still able to battle.

“Now you will know Shiftry's full fury!” Damien announced. “Shiftry, take down Floatzel with Leaf Storm!” Chris' Pokémon clenched when he heard the attack declared. Shiftry was surrounded by a green light that covered his entire body as he raised his arms. Out of nowhere, there was an explosion of leaves swirling around the Grass Pokémon. It was then that Shiftry lowered his arms and pointed his twig-like finger at his opponent. There was no way to avoid the storm of leaves that was closing in on the Water Pokémon. All Floatzel could do was brace itself for the attack.

“No, Floatzel!” his trainer hollered in concern. Floatzel was ravaged by the barrage of leaves. After the attack, small cuts and bruises covered his body. Chris' Pokémon fell to his knees before collapsing on the ground.

“Floatzel is unable to battle!” the announcer exclaimed. “The winner of this round is Shiftry!” The audience was ecstatic over the power of Damien's Pokémon. Chris reached for Floatzel's Poké Ball.

“I'll have you fixed up as soon as possible, Floatzel. You deserve your rest,” Chris fired a red beam of light at his brave Pokémon, returning him to his Poké Ball. He latched the capsule back to his belt and grasped the device that contained his final ally.

“Well, this seems like a uphill battle for you, Collins,” Damien mocked. “Two to one are not really good odds you know.”

Chris glared at Damien for his comment, “Damien, you think you have this won, don't you? Well, think again!” He then threw the red and white container in his hand to the center of the arena, “Arcanine, show them what you can do!” The device opened and released a bright light. From the light came the large, red canine with the majestic, white mane. It appeared before an intimidated Shiftry and his trainer. Shiftry had reason to be intimidated, not only from his stature, but the advantage Arcanine had over him.

Chris didn't want to risk Shiftry pulling something tricky, so the time had come to take it out fast and hard. The young trainer gave his command, “Arcanine, use your Flare Blitz attack!” An inferno erupted all over the Fire Pokémon's body, from head to tail. He began to charge at Shiftry, looking like a blazing comet.

“Shiftry, get out of there!” the concerned trainer told his Pokémon, surprising Chris once again. The Grass Pokémon couldn't do anything except guard himself from the blow the best way he can, but to no avail. The force from the tackle sent Shiftry flying. When he finally landed on the ground, he was unable to get back up due to the impact of the charge and burns he received.

“Shiftry is unable to continue!” the announcer pronounced. “This round goes to Arcanine!” The audience was in an uproar once again. Arcanine only suffered a small amount of recoil damage, due to his opponent already being weakened. He returned to his side of the arena briskly, ready for Damien's last Pokémon. The once cocksure trainer took out the capsule that belonged to his devoted Pokémon.

“Return now, Shiftry,” the Pokémon was returned to his Poké Ball. Damien then said something underneath his breath, “I'll win this for you, Shiftry, and you too, Gyarados. Your sacrifices won't be in vain.” He put the Poké Ball back in his pocket and pulled out the capsule that contained his last Pokémon. Before he sent out his final Pokémon, he had something to say, “So, it comes down to this doesn't it, Collins.”

“I guess so,” Chris responded boldly. “You're annoying as hell, but you and your Pokémon are the toughest team my Pokémon and I have ever faced.”

“So, you think I'm annoying? That's good. It means I'm doing my job.”

“Okay, Damien. It's time to send out your final Pokémon.”

“Don't mind if I do,” he pitched the ball into the arena. “Go, Houndoom! It's time to end this battle!” The capsule opened and from it came the black, devilish hound ready to fight. Arcanine and Houndoom, two fierce Fire Pokémon, stare each other down, knowing that their most damaging attacks would only fuel each other.

“Would you believe it ladies and gentlemen?” the announcer asked in amazement. “Both finalists are down to their last Pokémon. This is one match that will be remembered for a long time.” The waiting was over. The battle began.

“Arcanine, attack!”

“Houndoom, attack!”
I want to know what's going to happen next! You're very good at describing the pokemon and the attacks. The only problem I have that you shouldn't worry about, is that the battles are over in one or two attacks. However, I doubt the current will be very short at all. Well done.^_^
The reason why the battles go so quickly is because of type advantages, more like disadvantages. Neither Arcanine or Houndoom have attacks that are super-effective against each other, so expect a knock out, drag out fight ;). And who knows, maybe the trainers themselves will have a knock out, drag out, too :P. Doth protest too much. Anyways, the next chapter may take a while, since a lot of things are going to happen in it. I was thinking of combining the Prologue, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 into one big chapter, but I think I'm going to leave it as it is.
I know, I know. It's why I said not to worry about.-_- It adds to the anticipation.:ninja: I'll keep quiet and let you work in peace. Take your time; I'm sure it will be worth the wait.^_^
