i meant by friends like i theres these pokemon chat room i go on and i ask if anybody got this or that but i always trade it back thats how i got pokedex filled

My first tip would be to avoid rounding out your experience so much. I've noticed most pokemon games emphasize more quality over quantity.
Secondly, don't let him set up. Use that extra change you have to always bring out avantageous pokemon. If you don't have one, catch one and level grind.
