Ok I was training in the patch of grass in front of Herthome entrance. I went down to this man at the bottom of the screen hoping to fight him. Instead he game me an odd keystone. I didn't think it would be that easy to get an odd keystone.
The very same thing happened in D/P, so you shouldn't be that surprised...........
Hey guys, I have Platinum as well, about half way there, beat the 5th gym.
My final team is:
Infernape
Luxio
Starapter
Eevee (most likely evolve to a Espeon or Umbreon)
Floatzel
Lucario (don't have yet, but will get later)
Are you enjoying it, Stichez? Anyways:
I finally got past the 5th gym (easiest Gym fight I've ever had) and I'm currently training in Iron Island:
Heracross, Level 37 (Close Combat, Shadow Claw, Brick Break, Aerial Ace)
Porygon2, Level 35 (Psybeam, Signal Beam, Shock Wave, Recover)
Noctowl, Level 36 (Shadow Ball, Uproar, Hypnosis, Air Slash)
Torterra, Level 36 (Earthquake, Curse, Leech Seed, Razor Leaf)
Bibarel, Level 36 (Return, Water Gun Amnesia, Rollout)
<insert random slave here>
Bibarel needs Curse and Waterfall <_<
My team is Infernape weak. Managed to find that out when fighting him in Canalave City :P
I beat the E4 last night:
Scizor Lv59 [Bullet Punch/Brick Break/X-Scissor/Swords Dance] {Technician} (Iron Plate)
Empoleon Lv59 [Surf/Metal Claw/Ice Beam/Drill Peck] (NeverMelt Ice)
Jolteon Lv58 [Thunderbolt/Double Kick/Shadow Ball/ThunderWave] (Black Belt)
Magmortar Lv59 [Flamethrower/ThunderPunch/Sunny Day/Solarbeam] (Magnet)
Tropius Lv30 & Bibarel Lv27 [HMs]
At first I had no idea how to get through Cynthia's Lv 62 Garchomp (fast, and had either Flamethrower or EQ to OHKO any of my team). Eventually I had Scizor go first, and while Spiritomb attempting do anything to my Bug/Steel combo, I sword danced three times, hyper potioned, and then Bullet Punched for the OHKO. Then Garchomp came out, and I used the priority of Bullet Punch to OHKO her before I could get flamed to death. The reason why that worked? Bullet Punch was the strongest attack on Garchomp, with 40 x1.5 (technician) x1.5 (STAB) x1.2 (item) = 108 final damage, versus 75 final damage from Brick Break and 80 x 1.5 (STAB) x 0.5 (Ground resist) = 60 final damage from X-Scissor. All three sword dances were necessary too.
Remember kids, math is your friend.
Now it's off to Solaceon (I apparently didn't see a single Unown) and then I get my NatDex!

Adamant
Blaze Kick, Stone Edge, Earthquake, Brick Brake
2. Alakazam
Timid

3. Vespiquen

True level balancing is a myth. Right now I'm wishing I had a Secret Key so I could unlock Fridge Rotom, as Blizzard would help massively....against Cynthia's Garchomp, which I can't beat unless its Dragon Rush misses (which, in spite of its only-75% accuracy, hasn't happened yet) MY Garchomp, which can survive 1 Dragon Rush when starting at full HP, and 2HKOs (I believe) with Dragon Claw.
Leafeon is 2HKO'd at best by any pokemon I'd be using it against, so Synthesis is kind of wasted on it. Thank god for the guy in the Game Corner Cash-In area who tells you the HP type of your pokemon, so now I know that Leafeon's HP would be Ice. Unfortunately, Leafy's special attack isn't exactly incredible, so it'd really only be somewhat effective on Garchomp, so instead I'll probably get it Knock Off through move tutor, to get rid of those Sitrus Berries that save the powerhouses of the E4....
Gastrodon is currently an HM whore, but it still does good damage with Surf (and Waterfall somewhat), and it survives a Dragon Rush from Cynthia's Garchomp, so once I give it Ice Beam, it'll be able to deal it a hard blow, if not KO it. If Earth Power wasn't unobtainable as a Move Tutor until post-E4, I'd give it that, but instead Mud-Slap will be able to annoy certain pokemon *cough*Milotic*cough*, since Gastrdon is built as a tank and should be able to take at least 1 hit from most pokemon, and it can then dish out annoying Mud-Slaps until that pokemon connects with a second hit....fun.
Houndoom will get Crunch over Faint Attack once it reaches Level 54, when it will get Crunch as a level-up move.
Rotom wishes it could change form so it could benefit from the boosted defenses and Special Attack of those forms, as well as the extra move variety. But until then, Discharge is just there for extra PP for when it destroys Aaron's Pressurizing Vespiquen, so it'll likely be dropped for a support move, probably Reflect, which would help massively against both Lucian's Gallade and Cynthia in general....Confuse Ray actually has potential to be very effective, so I'm leaving it there unless I can get a form-unique move to put there....
Now I've just got to train. A lot.

Quote for truth. Shoot for 58 like I did.
I don't know how easy it is to get to Level 55, but did you fight Trainers only or wild Pokemon to train too? I can't believe you guys can get such high levels.

Im with ya there Hak. My pokemon are only at level 27, haha. Right now I'm thinking a head and trying to catch a volpix or a hounder so I can win easily at the steel gym. I'm sorry but the ghost gym was a joke, beat every monster with bite, haha
