Ok, this is the first time I completely scratched anything. The following is a result of about two hours work, and my first attempt at scratch spriting. Bare in mind, I don't think it's all that good, but I thought I should get an outsider's opinion.

For a scratch, it looks pretty professional. There are some things I notice, like the trainer's left arm getting bigger going down his hand and not knowing if the change of colors on the trainer's shirt is a shadow effect or part of the shirt design. Even with those things, I think the end result looks quite well. Good job.
I have to say, with that being your first scratch, bravo! It's wonderful. I don't like the shirt's shading, as Traveler pointed out. On the left arm, only shade on the bottom of the sleeve, instead of the U-like thing going on.
Thanks, I'm taking your comments into account and I am making sufficient changes to this as I type this, I will post the revised version later, although I am unsure about Traveller's comment about the left arm getting bigger going down the hand, because I don't know which left hand this comment is about.
I was talking about the trainer's own left arm, the one not holding the Poke Ball. Sorry for the confusion.

Oh, right, well, he's kind of got a snag machine on his arm (I like the concept), but I suppose his arm is a little long/large. I'll try to fix that as best as I can.
Oh, a snag machine. I didn't notice that. If you want him to keep the snag machine, I suggest that it would be a different color, so it wouldn't be confused with part of his arm.

Any suggestions on the colour?

EDIT: I've made some changes, and remade the snag machine. I have also made a sprite without the snag machine to see which is better.

The snag machine looks more define and much better. I agree the sprite without the snag machine looks better, but if you really want your trainer to have one, I would suggest it be either red, to match his shirt, or blue, since you already have blue in the color scheme of your sprite.

EDIT: Well, the machine looks fine now. Let's just see if looks better with different colors ^_^.

How's this:

I decided to use both suggestions for the colour scheme of the snag machine.
