Full Version: New Warning System

Hi all,

I am pleased to announce we have completed a massive overhaul of the warning system here at Pokémon Acanthite Forums. The new list of warnings can be seen here: as you can see, some warnings are now based on the number of previous (active) offences rather than the severity of the offence, as this is easier for our moderation team to determine.

I am also pleased to announce that, with this overhaul, all previous warnings issued to members have been wiped from the system. This does not affect the status of banned members.

We have also issued a new list of warning levels (levels at which members will receive bans). From now on, members will receive their first ban when they hit 20% rather than 25%, with bans being issued at every 5% thereafter (new levels come in at every 10%). The list is as follows:

20-25% - 3 days
30-35% - 5 days
40-45% - 7 days
50-55% - 10 days
60-65% - 3 weeks
70-75% - 5 weeks
80-85% - 7 weeks
90-95% - 10 weeks
100% - Permanent

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them here.
You are always pleased to announce something regarding rules.

You ******* love it and you know it.
10 weeks for 90% seems a touch lenient - I'd' have gone with 3 months or 14 weeks. Otherwise, good ban-length choices all around.
I do have a bit of an issue with this. Someone who has hit 20% would be banned every time they violate the 25-character limit, or some other extremely minor offense. That's really rather cruel. I think that if we make the expiration of minor offenses sooner, it might solve the problem.
I was wondering, what is "sockpuppeting"? I have never seen this term before, so excuse me if it is common knowledge.
My opinions on the new levels are as follows:

Public moderation criticism should be brought down to 5%, as it's really quite harmless.

Sexually explicit content, first offence, should not be 15%. That's far too low. It should be 25% at least. Same with plagiarism.

Flaming warnings should continue to be issued based on severity. Telling someone they're a worthless piece of crap (or a more vulgar word) should not be equated to childishly telling someone they're stupid just because they were both first offenses.

Sockpuppeting (Zameric, this usually means dual-accounting) should be 50%.

Also, I think we as moderators (and administrators) should be a bit lenient on harmless accidental offenses (i.e. posting a 24-character post, or bumping a thread that was a day past the cutoff point), as these don't hurt anyone, and we don't want to be intolerant totalitarians. :P
A revised list has been put up, check it out. Where we haven't agreed, we've generally met you halfway.

If you wanna be lenient, you go ahead and be lenient. :P
