Pie, I just personally like it better. I think it's because cake is usually too sweet.
I guess it really just depends on what your in the mood for. If you want something just plain sweet, go for cake. When you want something thats not that sweet, with a wholesome taste, go for pie.

I kinda like both, though since i live in miami, all we see are:
