It's been a while, hasn't it?

Anyway:

1. Remove criticism of moderation from the offense list. I feel that this should be classed as a form of flaming. Also, the rules on this should be relaxed and we should be allowed to say some things (even non-complimentary things) of the mods, but, if we go overboard on a negative comment, it's counted as flaming, and a warnable offense.

2. Outlaw chatspeak. I've always hoped for this, and I have been on a one-man crusade for this in the past. While most of the chatspeak users are total noobs, a few have escaped general noobiness and are still here, and well-liked by some, too. (You know who you are.) Still, high chatspeak amounts reflect badly on us as a forum. Which would give a better impression to you - a forum full of rule-breakers, but not a word of chatspeak is spoken, or a forum with hardly any rule-breakers, but every man and his dog using chatspeak? I'd say the first one gives a better impression, and is more likely to draw intelligent new members.

3. Publicly offer mod/staff jobs. What I mean by this is that, hypothetically speaking, one day, in Announcements, this comes up:

Fake ad Wrote:LOOKING FOR A NEW MOD

Minimum qualifications:

400 posts or more
+10 in rep or more
Must have received a maximum of two warnings since the forum upgrade, and must have no active warnings
Must never have been banned, whether on the really old forum, the pre-upgrade forum, or the current forum

PM Fang with a (minimum of) 100-word passage as to why you should be the next mod.

I believe that this would foster a spirit of friendly competition among the community, and we want a competitive edge for when Acanthite comes out, so that we have more drive to be the best fangame out there.

4. Switch to a better vBulletin. I believe that the best forum style is vBulletin, as in Serebii- or TCOD-style, not this vBulletin. (No, I'm not advertising.) Better graphics, more ease of use, and a fairer rep system.

5. Start an Anime-Style Battling league. I feel that, ever since Fun and Games was deleted, we need a bit of fun around this forum, while not overloading the bandwidth. I feel that an ASB league would fit the bill perfectly.

6. Bring back the Zero Tolerance ban levels. Although I'm personally against the Zero Tolerance era's warning levels, I support its ban levels. The old system of a ban at every 25% is too lenient, and the current system at every 10% is too strict. The Zero Tolerance era had bans at every 15%, which I believe is the right balance.

7. Have a minimum member age of nine. Remember when a seven-year-old-kid called "Fish" signed up, and the controversy caused by his age? Well, I feel that we make the date of birth a mandatory part of the sign-up form, and anyone who signs up whose age is eight or younger is auto-banned (whether by the system [if it's possible] or by a mod/admin) until their ninth birthday.

Let me know what you think of these.

~Nyumi
1. sounds fair.
2. um... I think thats a good Idea...
3. if you remove the "maximum of two warnings since the forum upgrade" and i'm almost a mod. I don't think thats a good idea...
5. whats the acanthite league, then?

2. Outlaw chatspeak. - Sure.

3. Publicly offer mod/staff jobs.

Must have received a maximum of two warnings since the forum upgrade, and must have no active warnings Not two, make it 5 or something, else it'll be unfair.
Must never have been banned, whether on the really old forum, the pre-upgrade forum, or the current forum. This part is too much. It's not fair at all.

4. Switch to a better vBulletin. I believe that the best forum style is vBulletin, as in Serebii- or TCOD-style, not this vBulletin. (No, I'm not advertising.) Better graphics, more ease of use, and a fairer rep system. Requires more money. You forgot that.

5. Start an Anime-Style Battling league. I feel that, ever since Fun and Games was deleted, we need a bit of fun around this forum, while not overloading the bandwidth. I feel that an ASB league would fit the bill perfectly. There's one HERE for Shoddy. What do you mean ANIMÉ style?

6. Bring back the Zero Tolerance ban levels. - The Zero Tolerance era had bans at every 15%, which I believe is the right balance. Good idea!

They'll lie about their ages.

I think you have some good ideas there, but the moderator thing is a bit too much. Never being banned should NOT be a pre-requisite to be a moderator.

I put my comments next to the suggestion, italicized.
I'll input on the technical stuff.

First off, believe me, MyBB is FAR better than vBulletin. I've used vB before and it's utter crap compared to MyBB, which is arguably the best free forum software available. It's actually more professional than vB.

As for removal of mod criticism, I'd say so.

Zero Tolerance never had warnings at every 15%, we just upped the warning points for each warning. I prefer having a ban at every opportunity after 20%, not because I like banning people (don't forget, I'm not a mod anymore), but because it actually gives members incentive to stop breaking the rules after every since ban expiry.

As for the age limit, technically we SHOULD comply with COPPA, which restricts members under the age of 13, but we don't. It might be law but it's only an optional one. Regardless, I do think we should comply.

And in regards to mods, we don't need anymore, and we're perfectly capable of picking out candidates ourselves. If we opted to do it your way, every single noob would apply, and I don't want an inbox full of crap.
1. I actually agree with this.

2. I agree to a point.

3. I don't really think that would be a good idea...

4. I would have said yes before, but Cipher did bring up a good point...

5. An ASB would be awesome! That would be perfect for this forum.(I feel like we might be the only ones who know what an ASB is)

6. I like that idea.

7. I actually completely agree with this one.

2. Outlaw chatspeak. Impossible to enforce, I think...
3. Publicly offer mod/staff jobs. Then FK will be swarmed by PMs. :P The mod position shouldn't be something you apply for.
4. Switch to a better vBulletin. Costs more money.
5. Start an Anime-Style Battling league. Don't know what ASB is, but the Acanthite League says hi.
6. Bring back the Zero Tolerance ban levels. Sounds like a good idea to me.
7. Have a minimum member age of nine. Impossible to enforce. Doesn't take a nine-year-old to put in a fake birthday, even though I agree.

Comments in the reply. Most of it, obviously, I don't agree with, but hey, I'm just one person.
1. I once moderated a forum where, if you felt a mod had wrongly punished you, you'd either talk to a Super Mod or an Admin, or even possibly another mod who would take a look at your case and see if it was fair, although taking it to the forums would result in harsher punishment regardless. Several mods and I had to check a large amount of cases from one mod in particular, and eventually she was demoted and frozen for favouritism (I believe the clincher for freezing was when she edited a user's account to abandon a pet so that one of her friends could adopt it instead) and arrogance towards the admins and other mods. I think the system you guys have here is pretty similar, so I can't complain. Sorry if this is tl;dr by the way.

2. I don't really care about chatspeak - it's a part of internet life, and I think that would alienate potential newbies who do use it. Elitism like that always bugs me, and I've found that it leads for an unrelaxed atmosphere. Plus, I've met some fantastic people who use chatspeak, and some absolute twits who do not.

3. Nah. It reminds me too much of university applications, and that's nightmare fuel for me at the moment x-x

4. I know nothing about forum servers, so no comment x3

5. You mean stuff like Naruto vs. Berserk, or TTGL vs. NGE, or character vs. character?

6. I think that more depends on the offence. A few genuine mistakes can easily add up to 15% after all, and a hapless newbie could find themselves at 15% before they could blink.

7. Oh, they'd just lie. How could you enforce that?
Okay, let me explain how an ASB works. Basically, you sign up with a a team of Pokemon, and you battle other people in the anime style of battling. You give your Pokemon X amount of commands with up to Y variations. A referee is there to seperate the rounds and decide on stuff. You get Pokédollars, you can buy stuff, and so on. Simple, right? Oh, and this can all be done on the forums, without having to download anything.
I agree with all of your points, Nyumi. I guess I'm waaaaaaaaay far from becoming a moderator. :P

Quoting this because this is exactly what this forum needs.
