Can you believe that? The TSA has all but screwed over half of the world here, as nearly everyone uses laptops now. (Not only that, but mine is an IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T43, the ones that had their batteries recalled for the same reason, and no such fires have occured in it.) Post what you think.
It might have something to do with the battery still running through the laptop, and then the altitude affecting the current causing a fire. If you disconnect the battery I think It may not be putting out the same charge since its not feeding out through the connection dock that you see. on the laptop I'm using now you can see them sticking out.
besides that I've never been on a plane with a laptop. so if you really love your laptop and just plan on going on a plane trip but don't need your laptop, I wouldn't recommend bringing it. nor if you do need it listen to my idea, since Its possible that doing so could just make it worse by exposing it out to the air. you could cover it or put it in a case outside the laptop. another thing is maybe the altitude overworks the battery causing it to fire and by not plugging it in it could be storing extra energy causing a fire quicker/more likely.
This will be a big issue, My dad goes on alot of business trip and he need his laptop, They should allow them on the plane but they should be off.
I dont see it being a huge issue. 22 in 9 years? I cant help but think the most of the fires were in the earlier years of laptops, and there are several ways to prevent it, ways like The Other suggested.
