Projects: Thread Guidelines and Requirements

Thanks to Canine Munch for initial creation of this thread. (I will be copying large amounts of Canine Munch's initial thread, due to the fact that he wrote the guidelines on projects.) Since its creation in 2007, though, it has seldom been used. Now that the Game-Making and Your Projects forums have been merged, in order to reduce the amount of clutter in the new Games and Projects forum, all project threads must comply with these guidelines as of November 1, 2009.

The key to success is to have a nice tidy, attractive and easy-to-read thread. Here are some of the requirements you will now need to follow in order to make a project thread. (If you already have a project thread you will need to edit it to correspond with the requirements.)

Introduction: Introduce us to your project and tell us a little bit about it.
Storyline: Please make sure you post up a storyline, be it a full storyline or part of one.
Visual media: Please include screenshots or maps from your game.
Credits: Please give credit to those whose resources you are using and make sure you have permission.

All project threads must have the following thread title:

Quote:[PROJECT] Project name

From now on, all project threads must have the following header:

Code:
[align=center][size=large][b]Project Name[/b][/size][/align]

[b]Software used:[/b] Name of software
[b]Project founder(s):[/b] Name of founder(s)

If you fail to comply with these guidelines upon making a project thread, you will be given five days to rectify the situation.

I will shortly be posting an example of a bare minimum project thread that we would accept.

Thanks,

Cipher
Pokémon Acanthite Version

Software used: RPG Maker XP
Project founder(s): Fangking Omega

Pokémon Acanthite Version is intended to set the scene for the Gold and Silver era of games. This prequel takes place some months before the events of Gold and Silver and it endeavours to explain the nature of the rival character from those games (who shall be referred to as Kamon). Pokémon Acanthite will attempt to explain Kamon’s seemingly evil and uncaring attitude observed in the GSC series by revealing the series of events that made him the way he is.

Storyline

Almost three years had passed since the fall of the once mighty Team Rocket at the hands of an emerging young Pokémon Trainer. The Rocket organisation, once devoted to crime and corruption, vanished without trace. The region of Kanto was at last free from the pollution of their evil and Team Rocket had become little more than a memory.

However, even without the guiding hand of former boss Giovanni, there were whispers among former Rocket members about a revival. In secret, they began to reform under the leadership of Giovanni’s ruthless General, Argus. Feared and respected greatly among his peers, he assumed the mantle of Team Rocket Boss as they planned their comeback. Under his iron will, they were prepared to take the steps they needed to in order to regain the power they once held.

I hope you look forward to more from the Pokémon Acanthite Version project!
As you can see, this is a very simple project thread. There was a lot more I could have included, but much of it would not have been necessary. I have included the basic game information as required by the guidelines and I have also included a short introduction about Pokémon Acanthite Version. I've also included the first section of the game's storyline - the last thing you need when introducing a project is a massive wall of text.

As for the visual media, I have included a handful of old screenshots as well as a map of the Merto region. I haven't added notation for the legend on the map, which I probably should have done, as people won't have a clue what those numbers and letters mean without the legend. I also haven't included any area maps, and most importantly, I haven't included any information on the new Pokémon in the game - this may surprise you, but that isn't necessary. Even if you do want to list some new Pokémon from your project - if you have any - a full Pokédex is far from necessary.

I have also included an old list of staff members for the game. This is not a good idea. Make sure your list of credits is up-to-date because you don't want to miss anybody out and risk upsetting or annoying them.

As I have said, this is a bare minimum example of what will be accepted as a project thread. I could have included a lot more in there, but I didn't because I didn't feel I needed it. If I want to, I can add more information at a later time and post in the thread notifying people of what I have added.

With this example in mind, go forth and create the best thread you possibly can for your project.
