Agreed with Kuda. I care about design a whole lot more than stats for first impressions. And we weren't talking about stats anyway. I really could care less about stats until about a month after the game comes out. I'm definitely gonna pick the starter that looks the coolest, even if it has horrible defense or attack or speed or whatever. Until Go #2. Then I care a little more.
I love Gyarados with a fiery passion, as for his little prevo as well. Magikarp is such a dunce it makes him cool :P
As for the cat, I sure hope it's not a psychic. seems like theres a lot o.O Looks like a Normal to me.
Wierdmin has it! They look cheap. Thats it. Just, not pogeyman like at all. just ugly.
Meh, I try and beat the game with the best pokeys, then I do that. Frankly, i don't give a damn on how anything looks. And why do I hate Johto pokemon? I hate they're movesets.
Its another lame cat Pokemon. It even has Delcatty (Delcattie? Del... I dont care.) misshapen head.

Its obvious that, Grass will have the least defence, but be fastest. Fire will be the strongest, but slowest, and water will have the highest defence.
As weird as this might seem, most Pokemon fans aren't competitive battlers and don't give a damn about how good a Pokemon's stats are.
In addition, you're going to spend the entire game traveling with your starter. Obviously, you're going to want to pick the one that appeals to you the most.
Yeah, well, I'm not one of those whiny fans who give a damn about how a pokemon looks like another and whatnot.

Are you implying that people who look at Pokemon from a design perspective are whiny? That's quite the silly statement. I'll admit that quite often they can be annoying (especially the "glameow sux cuz we already have a cat and purugly is ugly" crowd), but usually they have perfectly good reasons to dislike the Pokemon they dislike.
Honestly, I prefer people like them to the tourneyfags that mock Pokemon like Noctowl for their poor stats.
I'm certain that each Pokémon has its perfect function and can be used in a decent way. Of course, you won't see Beedrill kicking Arceus' arse, but Ubers suck anyway, so yeah.
I personally believe that no Pokemon should exceed a 600 stat total, then, ubers(not all, but most) wouldn't be so uber. I love all pokemon, I just don't like some.
B/W still has my attention, but if these starters are real(except the stage one water evo and... maybe the final fire) they'll start losing it again.
I'm not implying that all those certain design loving fans are whiny, but many of them are.
Famitsu gives B/W versions Pokémon's first ever perfect score for a game. 40/40. As I've thought all along, even if the vast majority of the designs look like poo, the gameplay looks spectacular.
