OK, people have tried and tried to get me to understand why they think DPPL were amazingly awesome, but I'm never able to truly respond to them because it's usually off topic in that forum, so I'm making one to respond.
First off, I have never said I hated these games, they were good in they're own way. They had the Physical/Special fix-up, the underground was kinda nifty, a fire elite four member(yes!), double battle was a little better, some good pokemon, unique type combos(like rotom), cool new look and a few other reasons I can't think of right now.
Now onto the bad. I didn't like quite a few of the Pokemon(I'm looking at you, purugly), anticlimactic: there was nothing to do when it was over, pokedex completion is imposible without nintendo events, older games and/or cheating, way too many legendaries, required to fight a legendary(they're supposed to be optional), another rock-type first gym, overpowered Arceus(I have a whole thread for this guy), boring story and other reasons I can't think of right now.
People attack me saying things like "Red and Blue was short and anticlimactic as well, and mewtwo was super powerful too". Well, I see R/B as the introduction to Pokemon. It was not anticlimactic seeing as you get to catch Mewtwo after beating the elite; there is nothing wrong with Mewtwo being the strongest in those games, because: a) you got him after the game was over and b) he was THE legendary.
GSC still are my favorites. A very unique story with a revisit to Kanto, Kanto gyms and Red after you beat the game. Anything lacking in these games were added in the remakes.
RSE were good, but pathetic compared to GSC. I liked them, but they could have done more.
That's all I have to say for now.
