OK, people have tried and tried to get me to understand why they think DPPL were amazingly awesome, but I'm never able to truly respond to them because it's usually off topic in that forum, so I'm making one to respond.
First off, I have never said I hated these games, they were good in they're own way. They had the Physical/Special fix-up, the underground was kinda nifty, a fire elite four member(yes!), double battle was a little better, some good pokemon, unique type combos(like rotom), cool new look and a few other reasons I can't think of right now.
Now onto the bad. I didn't like quite a few of the Pokemon(I'm looking at you, purugly), anticlimactic: there was nothing to do when it was over, pokedex completion is imposible without nintendo events, older games and/or cheating, way too many legendaries, required to fight a legendary(they're supposed to be optional), another rock-type first gym, overpowered Arceus(I have a whole thread for this guy), boring story and other reasons I can't think of right now.
People attack me saying things like "Red and Blue was short and anticlimactic as well, and mewtwo was super powerful too". Well, I see R/B as the introduction to Pokemon. It was not anticlimactic seeing as you get to catch Mewtwo after beating the elite; there is nothing wrong with Mewtwo being the strongest in those games, because: a) you got him after the game was over and b) he was THE legendary.
GSC still are my favorites. A very unique story with a revisit to Kanto, Kanto gyms and Red after you beat the game. Anything lacking in these games were added in the remakes.
RSE were good, but pathetic compared to GSC. I liked them, but they could have done more.
That's all I have to say for now.
Hm. Well, DPPt has my support in terms of:

- Majority of Pokémon.
- Region layout.
- Pre-Story.
- Phys-Special split.
- Unique type combos. (I look at you, Drapion / Skuntank)

But I frown upon...

- Lack of ANY afterstory whatsoever
- Impossibility of completion of PokéDex w/o events, trading or cheating, as Char said.
- 14 legendaries. This is way too much. RSE was bad enough. RBYGSC had a perfect no. of legends - 6.
- Horrible designs (Purugly and Probopass, and Hippopotas especially)

... And these are a few.

You must be joking! It's so cuuuuuuuuute! <=3
Tisk tisk. The story was about some crazy as guy who wants to remake the world. I not only find that deep, but very interesting and profound. Makes me want to get inside his head.
Whoever says Purugly is a bad design should be frowned upon >_>

Anyway, I agree with you on many points, however, the designs that are terrible to me are:
Lickylicky(Oh look, Lickitung just gained weight.)
Grotle(I love Turtwig and like Torterra, but this one is just...weird...)
Chimchar line(Terrible designs for monkeys)
Rampardos(Ugh...)
Croagunk(What's with the French mustache?)

Ones that I don't like:
Garchomp
Probopass
Electivire
Gliscor
Magnezone
Tangrowth(Sorry Snook, but it like...scares me...)
Rhyperior
All the non-story legends other than Manaphy and Shaymin.

Other than that though, while I liked Cyrus, I was seriously annoyed by the pure ineptitude of Team Galactic. Seriously, Cyrus could've had better goons.

Another thing, as stated before, was the pure amount of legends. Pretty soon(I'm guessing sixth or seventh gen), half the Pokedex is gonna be legends, methinks >_<

Other than that, though, I loved other parts of the games. They had by far the coolest Gym designs. (Save Fantina's in DP, and Candice's) Not to mention the epicness of Piplup and Bidoof.

So yeah, I'm stuck between liking and disliking DPPt
A major reason for not liking these games that I forgot. They don't give enjoyment. I did not ENJOY playing these games. I played them because it was "the next pokemon" and, well, they let me down. I was bored and annoyed through most of the game. I didn't feel like I was playing a game, I felt like I was reading a boring book. There was nothing truly NEW. Yes they changed the physical/special thing, but there was nothing really new, it was just modified old. The main reason I don't like DPPL is because I didn't have fun playing them.
Probably because, like most people these days, their just stuck in the past, and they can't just suck it up, and live with it.
Unfortunately, the game itself was ruined due to the inept Team Galalctic, as SaW said. And though DPPt's a modified RSE / RBY (GSC was too awesome to modify. 2 regions? I mean, please, you can't get better than that, and besides, there's probably not enough memory in a cartridge to hold more than what HGSS had to offer.) it DID contain good stuff in the Overworld GFX department. Some moves, items and Pokémon were nice, too, like Brine, which I always use as a killing stroke and the Power Bracer, which, with Levitate, makes Bronzong ultra-powerful. I also liked Gallade and Bronzong a lot.
Things that bugged me:
Too many legendaries. Do we really need 14? Hopefully there won't be this many in B/W.

The fisherman with a WHOLE TEAM OF MAGIKARPS!!!!! Really Nintendo!!! I wasted more than 10 PP in that fight.

Phione. It was nearly impossible to obtain (for me that is) and it served no purpose whatsoever.<_<

The way that most of the gymleaders in DP had types that weren't even their own gym's type. For example, Volkner had a Lopunny which is a NORMAL type in an ELECTRIC type gym.

@bolded: There's been one in every single main-series game so far. I do not kid you on this.

@Italicized: I thought it was great for strategy. It had an electric move right? Besides, there weren't all that many electric types in the game.
