Isn't the fact that it was distributing Manga online technically illegal? I really couldn't care less.

Well, I am lazy and don't want to buy it. So this affect me.

^It's that type of attitude that is wrong with the whole world today. People just can't be arsed. If laziness got me out of paying for stuff I would have hundreds of sweet basses by now.

Yeah, I get you. People are just to lazy to get a job, pick up some money, to go the store, and pick up a game without the extremely nonexistent chance of getting arrested.

If its free, then by all means you can take it.

No. Just no. This could apply to everything: you can download books online and even read them there, you can download movies for free, you can download music for free and you can download game for free. Same goes for manga.
Unless it's made by people that don't do this for a profit, it's not something you can just take. People took their time and money to create something so other people can enjoy it. When people then take it and leave the creator without any money (or something else), it's pretty much a nail in his coffin.
People write books for a living (not talking about fanfiction and such), bands create their music to express themselves and for other people's enjoyment. When you just take it without paying them, you're pretty terrible IMO.
Just imagine you create manga for a living. What would you think of it when people download it from everywhere, when they're supposed to buy it? You'd look at it a whole different way and probably be against the idea of 'taking what's free'.
It's people with such an idea that make music, movies and books slowly fade away. Why would you write a book, it's not like you can earn money from it. Why create video games? Everyone will pirate it.
I'm not going to say I'm one of those 'buy-all' guys either. I've downloaded quite a few songs as well, but when I like a certain after listening to it for a few weeks, I'll go back to the store and buy a CD of them, to show my support. I always go to the stores to buy DVDs I want. I even had an option to modify my 360 for free, so I could play downloaded games, but declined to show support.
My point is, almost everything is free in the world. That doesn't mean you can also take almost everything.

(it wouldn't surprise me that the manga you like is free, thus making this rant unneeded)

Might I add, I don't buy CDs or DVDs, but I simply buy music online, and movies on my apple tv.

Hypocrite. Sites like dA and the NG Art Portal exist for a reason -- Art, and by exension, manga. You wouldn't believe how much manga is on dA.

And yet, is this art you speak of meant to be sold? No, its just meant to be viewed. Manga is posted on deviantart, but not manga that isn't meant to be distributed into it.
