Bored of your games? Looking for a new challenge? Try a Nuzlocke Challenge in any of your Pokémon games!
The Nuzlocke Challenge, created by Nuzlocke, can give a bit more challenge to the games. However, this doesn't mean it's overly complicated to do and understand. There are two, simple rules a challenger must abide:
1. Catch the first Pokemon you encounter in each route/cave/whatever and nothing else. If you fail to catch it, too bad, continue onwards.
2. If you Pokemon faints, consider it dead and release it.
This means Revives will be useless, Pokémon Centers will not work to 'unfaint' dead Pokémon. Death is permanent and you'll certainly want to keep your Pokémon alive this time around. They'll be precious to you during the entire game, and losing one is a terrible feeling.
Secondly, this will probably mean you won't have any HM slaves. You want to have every Pokémon you catch to be able to fight, so cluttering one Pokémon with Rock Smash, Flash etc. is not a good idea.
If you haven't realised it by now, losing Pokémon also gives you an opportunity to fail the game. If every single Pokémon you have faints, it's game over for you. You defenitely want to have some healing items with you at all times.
To let you see how a Nuzlocke run can unfold, I have finished one on FireRed before, and from my original six Pokémon (Bulbasaur, Caterpie, Pikachu, Mankey, NidoranM, Zubat) I only have Pierce left (Butterfree). I have lost 18 Pokémon in the process of becoming a Pokémon Champion. Losing Primeape and Venusaur during the Champion Battle was heart-breaking.
I'm going to try to keep this organized as much as I can, so I REALLY REALLY REALLY want you to follow this rule if you decide to join:
Post one post in here, which'll be your so-called 'Log Post'. Try to update in this post and not in separate posts. Of course, it's nice to let people know that you've done something good/lost someone in your game, so you can bump the thread describing what you've done. I will put a link to your post in this post, so people can easily navigate to your Log Post. This way, you can easily see when you caught/lost a certain Pokémon during your Nuzlocke Challenge.
For this reason, it's never bad to get descriptive. What Pokémon did you catch? In what Route? Where did it die?
As for me, I'll be starting a new one as well on LeafGreen and have some fun.
So, if you're bored of the games for a while, try a Nuzlocke Run. They are surprisingly fun and can give a nice challenge in the process.
