What actually is Proposition 8? I've heard a lot about it but haven't picked up what it's about.

A ludicrous bill passed BY THE VOTERS, unbelievably, that banned gay marriage (although civil partnerships were still allowed). A federal judge decreed it as impinging on the rights of gay couples who ought to be allowed the same benefits as heterosexual couples and has overturned it :) Brilliant news, IMO.

For those who don't know what it is, here's the full text of Poposition 8:
Section I. Title
This measure shall be known and may be cited as the "California Marriage Protection Act."
Section 2. Article I. Section 7.5 is added to the California Constitution. to read:
Sec. 7.5. Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.
I find it funny that these things are voted in by the adults of today, whereas in twenty years time, the widely more tolerant, open and accepting youth of today would probably have crushed Prop 8 in the first place for being homophobic, discriminatory, disgusting nonsense.
Only recently found out about this. Honestly, the fact people wanted this is really scary. I would've thought that by now we'd be over this kind of stuff.
